Senior Technician (Deputy Technical Manager)

Role Summary

The Senior Technician is a highly skilled calibration specialist responsible for performing advanced calibrations, troubleshooting, and technical support in the lab. In addition to their core technical duties, they serve as the Deputy Technical Manager, providing support to the Lab Manager and acting as their backup when needed. This includes oversight of lab operations, quality compliance, and method validation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calibration & Technical Expertise
    • Perform complex calibrations, troubleshooting, and repairs on customer devices, including mass flow meters, controllers, pressure gauges, pressure controllers, and air sampling pumps.
    • Ensure calibrations are conducted in compliance with ISO 17025 procedures and internal quality standards.
    • Assist with proficiency testing, cross-checks, and measurement uncertainty evaluations.
    • Provide technical support to lab technicians, assisting them with complex cases.
  • Quality & Compliance (Deputy Technical Manager Role)
    • Backup for the Lab Manager in case of absence, assuming temporary responsibility for lab operations.
    • Support the development, modification, verification, and validation of calibration methods in accordance with ISO 17025.
    • Oversee statements of conformity, result analysis, and review of calibration reports when delegated by the Lab Manager.
    • Assist in training new technicians and ensuring that procedures are properly followed.
    • Help maintain ISO 17025 accreditation by supporting internal audits and documentation reviews.
  • Laboratory Equipment & Process Improvement
    • Work closely with the Lab Manager to evaluate and improve calibration procedures.
    • Assist in the selection and validation of new measurement equipment.
    • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules for lab equipment are followed.
  • Customer Interaction & Support
    • Provide technical explanations to customers when inquiries are escalated from the sales team.
    • Participate in investigations of customer complaints related to measurement results.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3-5+ years of experience in calibration, metrology, or laboratory testing.
  • Strong technical background in fluid dynamics, physics, electronics, or metrology.
  • Proficiency in calibration software, measurement uncertainty calculations, and ISO 17025 compliance.
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret measurement results, and assist in method validation.
  • Experience in training and mentoring junior technicians is a plus.
