Purchasing / Procurement Specialist

Role Summary

The Purchasing / Procurement Specialist is responsible for procuring essential components, tools, and lab supplies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely restocking through Material Requirements Planning (MRP). This role requires strong negotiation skills, supplier evaluation expertise, and familiarity with procurement processes under ISO 17025 guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure components, tools, and lab supplies to support efficient laboratory operations.
  • Manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and confirm purchase orders to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
  • Run Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software to monitor inventory levels and ensure timely restocking of essential supplies.
  • Evaluate new suppliers according to ISO 17025 procedures:
    • Critical suppliers (essential to lab operations) must be approved by the Lab Manager.
    • Non-critical suppliers (e.g., office supplies) can be set up independently.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, cost control measures, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Track and manage purchase order records, vendor performance, and supply chain risks.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure that purchased items meet laboratory and operational requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in procurement, supply chain management, or purchasing.
  • Ability to negotiate with suppliers and build strong vendor relationships.
  • Experience with MRP software and inventory tracking systems is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing purchase records and supply chain logistics.
  • Understanding of ISO 17025 compliance in supplier evaluation and procurement processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory staff and management to ensure seamless operations.
