7.8.7 Reporting Opinions and Interpretations
The laboratory shall ensure that opinions and interpretations in reports are based on test or calibration results, clearly identified as such, and released only by authorized personnel.
7.8.7.1 Authorization and Documentation
When opinions and interpretations are expressed, the laboratory shall ensure that:
- Only authorized personnel release statements of opinions and interpretations.
- The laboratory documents the basis upon which the opinions and interpretations have been made.
Note:
It is important to distinguish opinions and interpretations from:
- Statements of inspections and product certifications as defined in ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17065.
- Statements of conformity as referred to in 7.8.6.
7.8.7.2 Basis for Opinions and Interpretations
The opinions and interpretations expressed in reports shall:
- Be based on the results obtained from the tested or calibrated item.
- Be clearly identified as opinions and interpretations.
7.8.7.3 Recording Customer Communications
When opinions and interpretations are directly communicated through dialogue with the customer, a record of the dialogue shall be retained.
